Amherst looking to adjust zoning for residential areas

A Public Hearing on the rezoning of all R-2 (two family residence) to R-1 (single family residence) was held January 10, 2011 at 6:30 p.m.

This is being done to combat the spread of duplex conversions in older neighborhoods and to address the many complaints we have received associated with absentee landlords. Restricting R-2 usage, particularly at common boundaries, will prevent the encroachment of incompatible land usage and protect property values within the R-1 zone, and stabilize R-1 and R-2 development.
